Let's Help Ms. Aisha

Ms Aisha Chaughtai is part of the preschool team at NHE. She is a caring teacher, as well as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Last week, Ms Aisha's home (on 119th) which she shared with her husband, son, daughter-in-law and and grandsons, caught fire. Her husband sustained 2nd and 3rd degree burns, and the house was completely destroyed.

Please consider helping Ms Aisha and her family get back on their feet with baby items, clothing, bedding, cooking supplies, furniture, even funds to help with medical bills.

Ramadan Mubarak!

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. A commemoration of Muhammad's first revelation, the annual observance of Ramadan is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam and lasts twenty-nine to thirty days, from one sighting of the crescent moon to the next.

Spirit Week!

Next week is our spring spirit week and this year, the themes were decided on by our very own student council.

  • Monday: Silly Hair & Spiritwear - Put on your NHE gear and your craziest hairdo!
  • Tuesday: Book Character Day - Dress like your favorite book character!
  • Wednesday: Sports Day - Dress like your favorite athlete!
  • Thursday: Wear Blue Day - Everyone dress up in NHE Blue!
  • Friday: Class Theme Day - Each class creates a theme to do together!

On March 14th, we are having an opportunity for everyone to meet the new principal, Dr. Ricardo Macias, and new assistant principal, Lara Lyons.  Afterwards, we will be having our March PTA General Meeting.

For those you cannot make it to the library, we will be having a virtual setup here:

Festival of Color

Festival of color, welcoming Spring, is the largest Festival of color/ Holi celebration in the Pacific Northwest with 10,000+ participants from the Eastside, Seattle, and beyond. The festival of color is organized by Northwest Share in partnership with King County's Marymoor Park and Vedic Cultural Center, Sammamish, with the support of the City of Redmond 's Tourism Grant program.

The ancient festival of Holi (Festival of Color) is celebrated every year in India and has found a permanent home in Pacific Northwest as well. The Festival of Color frees all the inhibitions within people so they can relate to others with pure joy. It brings people together and creates a community of happy people. The highlight of the festival is the great fun of coloring while dancing and jumping blissfully with friends and newcomers. Enjoy colors, music, dance, fun, contests and tasty Indian food. The best and most joyful event for the complete family, suitable for all ages during a warm spring day.

Seattle International Children's Friendship Festival

ICFF is the Pacific Northwest's only and most culturally enriching festival for children! Our vision is a peaceful future where all peoples of the world respect, appreciate, and enjoy the rich and diverse cultures of each other. To fulfill our vision, we are creating opportunities for young people to experience different cultures at an early age through art, music, folklore, and cultural displays. Art is one of the many ways for young children to express themselves and their cultures. ICFF Art Showcase is one of the best places to see different representations of art by young and talented artists worldwide.  All NHE kids are invited to participate.

A few notes about the art showcase:

  • This year's theme is "My Favorite Place!"
  • Submission is open to all 5 to 13-year-olds
  • The art showcase will be open to the public during festival hours, and the public will vote for artworks in their respective categories

Festival dates and location:

Special Message from Nurse Sarah

Hello NHES-----It is that time of the year again!

Most of the time flu activity peaks between December and February, although significant activity can last as late as May.

Please see attached graph for the differences of symptoms between cold, flu, allergies and COVID. (I will start posting them around the building)

The link below is our Too Sick for School decision chart from the BSD website. If you are sick, regardless of if you are negative for COVID, please stay home until you are better.

https://bsd405.org/services/health/too-sick-for-school/

COVID protocol hasn’t changed since May. Guidelines include:  Stay home if you are positive for 5 days (symptom onset, or positive test is day zero whichever comes first), and you may return on days 6-10 wearing a mask and feeling better. If you are not feeling better after day 5, please continue to stay home until you are better. The link to the COVID decision tree for k-12 is below.

Also-- Free COVID tests are now being delivered to your house!
